Alt-Printmaking for Teens, Adults, and Seniors
Tuesdays from 1:00pm - 2:30pm
-
This class is a time for community and sharing of ideas, members are welcome to follow the curriculum, or choose from a multitude of potential projects. Each class will begin with short periods of instruction in realistic drawing or painting, followed by independent work time.
To create a realistic image, the artist will explore how to combine and transform the elements of shape, line, shading and texture to create a sense of depth and space when rendering actual objects, places or people. Rendering from observation allows the artist to develop their own realistic style.
Our choices on offer will be gradually introduced and include all major media: painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, fiber arts and printmaking. A wide range of tools and materials is available, appropriate to the development of personal interests, in addition to an abundant resource museum and library to inspire ideas and expand upon each concept. For ceramics we offer good quality air-dry clay.
Our artists can choose to work alone, at their own pace, or collaborate with others. The excitement of discovery is essential to our philosophy. Surprises abound! The mentoring process is hands-on, as our experienced professionals guide each artist through this journey.

Realistic and Abstract Drawing for Adults and Seniors
Wednesdays from 6:00pm - 7:30pm
-
In this class you will learn to portray and conceive both realistic and abstract images and gain a greater understanding for each approach. These are skills that everyone may learn. The experience in the creation of each, their similarities and differences is what we will investigate. The more you explore the more fun it gets!
To create a realistic image, the artist will explore how to combine and transform the elements of shape, line, shading and texture to create a sense of depth and space when rendering actual objects, places or people. Rendering from observation allows the artist to develop their own realistic style. To create an abstract image, the artist will be freed from these constraints, and allowed to focus upon the elements of line, shape, color, and placement in their purest form. The compelling images created allow for an infinite range of geometric and organic shapes in myriad compositions.
The artist will develop a deeper understanding of color theory, and how to employ color to express a particular feeling, mood . Experimenting with a range of mediums, tools and paper, we will discuss and assess your needs and interests. Existing skill sets will be met with ongoing and responsive individualized instruction. Returning students will expand upon previous knowledge.
While we ask that the first half of each class be devoted to the lesson at hand, in our choice based art room, authentic self expression, and time to explore is the ultimate goal of our program. There will be ample time for our members to expand upon the lesson, or to create independent work, with a diverse range of materials in our choice based art room.
